International Falafel Day: Feast on yummy falafel with hummus – RECIPE

Planning to make a yummy treat on International Falafel Day? Here’s a simple recipe for air-fried falafel patties and hummus.

If you wake up to the smell of freshly-brewed coffee, day dream about roast chicken filet served on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes along with grilled veggies on the side, and go to bed after feasting on a flat noodle wok, then you are a foodie at heart. And, someone has rightly said that there is no truer love than the love for food.

Today, on June 12, foodies across the world are celebrating International Falafel Day. Made from chickpeas, falafel is a traditional Middle Eastern dish, commonly served in a pita along with hummus.

To mark the day, we are sharing with you a super easy recipe for falafel and hummus. Now, traditionally falafel is deep-fried, but we know how much efforts your have been putting in to control your calories, which is why we have made these yummy falafel patties in an air fryer.  

Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make air-fried falafel patties

Chickpeas (soaked overnight)1 cup
Onion (chopped)1 pcs
SaltAs per taste
Coriander powder1 tsp
Baking soda1/2 tsp
Cumin2 tsp
Lemon juice2 tsp
Coriander1/2 cup
Green chilli 2 pcs
Garlic (chopped)5-6 cloves
Ajwain (carom seeds) – optional 1/2 tsp

Method:

Now that you know the ingredients, let us tell you the method. In a food processor or a mixer, add chickpeas, which have been soaked overnight, along with all the other ingredients. Blend them well to form a coarse paste. For those, who are unable to digest chickpeas easily, you can add a pinch of ajwain (carom seeds) in the mix.

Following this, make round patties using your hands. Now, in a pre-hearted air fryer, cook the patties for 10 minutes till they turn golden and crisp.

Now, you can eat these yummy patties just like that or wrap them up in a pita bread to double the taste.

Something is missing isn’t it? One can never enjoy falafel to the fullest without hummus. Let us tell you how you can make the dip at home.

Ingredients required for hummus

Chickpeas (boiled)1/2 cup
White sesame seeds1/4 cup
Garlic (chopped)1 tsp
Extra virgin olive oil2 tbsp
Lemon juice2 tsp
Salt As per taste
Cumin powder1/2 tsp

Method:

To make the hummus, slightly roast the sesame seeds to release the aroma. Following this, just blend together all the ingredients to form a paste. While serving, you can top the hummus with a few drops of extra virgin olive oil and a pinch of paprika.

Once both falafel and hummus are ready, put them on a serving plate and enjoy the treat with your loved ones while celebrating International Falafel Day!
