Try this extremely simple recipe for saffron kheer. You don’t require a lot of ingredients and the result is always delicious.
Kheer is one of the trickiest desserts to make. Though the ingredient list is really small, it is the cooking time and way of cooking that is the game changer. The kheer is just a mere mixture of rice, milk, water and sugar, but we can always add a little extra something to give it that kick.
In this recipe, we added saffron to make this already delicious dessert divine. We know, we said it is a little tricky to cook, but we are here to break down the recipe for you. Enjoy this extremely yummy dessert and make a yummy treat for your family as well.
Recipe for kheer
For the first step, soak one cup of rice in water for 20 minutes. Once that is done, put the rice along with one cup of water in a cooker and give it a whistle.
Remove the rice from flame and let it come to room temperature. This is where the main work starts. Once the rice cool down, add two litres of milk in the cooker and simmer it on low flame.
Keep stirring the rice and the milk on low flame till it boils. Once you reach at that point, add two pinch of saffron in the cooker and continue stirring while cooking the kheer on low flame.
You have to continuously slow cook the kheer on low flame for at least 45 minutes. Don’t forget to stir it.
Finally, add two bowls of sugar and continue stirring on low flame for another 30 minutes. This is where you can add dry fruits to the kheer if you want. Chopped almonds and cashews taste divine.
The saffron kheer takes the top spot in the delicious dessert list. It tastes best when served chilled.
